LAUNCH OF JEWEL CHANGI AIRPORT RECRUITMENT FAIR IN THE NORTH EAST DISTRICT

21 February 2019, Singapore - Careers @ Jewel Changi Airport was launched today at Our Tampines Hub by Mr Desmond Choo, Mayor of North East District. Co-organised by North East Community Development Council (CDC) and Workforce Singapore (WSG), with support from Jewel Changi Airport Devt. and its partners, the two-day career fair will showcase more than 2,000 jobs from some 50 participating tenants and agencies at the upcoming tourist destination that will comprise offerings including gardens and play attractions, retail & dining options, a hotel and aviation facilities for travellers. This platform aims to provide career opportunities to North East residents and other Singaporeans including those who are unemployed or displaced to adapt to changing job demands and further develop their skills.

2    Careers @ Jewel Changi Airport will feature a wide range of jobs across various sectors, including food and beverage services, retail, and cleaning. Mr Choo said, “Infrastructural development such as Jewel Changi Airport strengthen Singapore’s connectivity and economic competitiveness. Importantly, it also creates good jobs and skills upgrading opportunities for Singaporeans. Through this career fair, our residents will have a one-stop platform to find or be trained for good jobs close to their homes.”

3    Besides meeting participating employers for on-site interviews and networking sessions, visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about WSG’s suite of Adapt and Grow programmes, which provide jobseekers with assistance in their job search and career guidance needs. These programmes include the Career Trial, which allows jobseekers to try out a job over a short timeframe to gain work experience and assess their fit before committing to it full-time. Visitors can also benefit from the SkillsFuture Advice Workshops during the event, which provide useful information on how they can tap on SkillsFuture and Adapt & Grow programmes for their career planning and skills upgrading needs.

4    Mr Tan Choon Shian, WSG’s Chief Executive said, “WSG’s collaboration with North East CDC and Jewel Changi Airport reflects our strong commitment to connect employers and jobseekers, and bring them together for successful job-matching whilst equipped with funding support under Adapt and Grow to eligible jobseekers and employers. We encourage more employers and the business community to come forward and work with us to create more opportunities for Singaporeans to find jobs closer to home.”

5    Ms Hung Jean, Chief Executive Officer of Jewel Changi Airport Devt. said, “We are excited to collaborate with both North East CDC and WSG in Jewel’s first recruitment fair for our partners. This is a very meaningful initiative that our partners can leverage to fulfil their manpower requirements, and we look forward to the partnership with both of these government agencies.”

6    To supplement Careers @ Jewel Changi Airport, a one-day “Make Service Your Career Brand” workshop was organised prior to the event to provide jobseekers keen on joining the services sector with useful tips, such as creating their own service brand and handling interview questions to profile their key attributes.

7    Individuals who have not pre-registered for Careers @ Jewel Changi Airport online are welcome to attend the second day of the career fair on 22 February. Visitors can walk in to visit the job fair and participate in any of the onsite activities.

8    Those who are not able to attend the two-day career fair or require more time to explore the various job opportunities can also participate in WSG’s Virtual Career Fair (VCF) at bit.ly/VCFjeweljobs4 from 23 February to 15 March 2019. The VCF serves to provide jobseekers with a convenient, always-accessible platform to explore jobs from Jewel Changi Airport beyond the two-day career fair. Through the VCF, jobseekers will also be able to interact with employers virtually, and access career related resources and insights to assist them in their job search.
